Coronavirus Update

13/2/2020

Dear Customer

On Feb 11th, The World Health Organization (WHO) gave an official name to the new coronavirus which spread across the globe:  Covid-19

Until today Feb 12th, Covid-19 death toll in China has reached 1,114, surpassing the total number of deaths in the world caused by SARS in 2003.

New infection cases recorded yesterday were 2,022, adding up to almost 44,800 confirmed infections.

Statistics and mathematical model suggested there is a trend in the number of new cases which is gradually reducing, infections could level off in the coming weeks.

It was reported that top officials were advised in a meeting where the President was also present, that efforts to contain the new coronavirus had gone too far in some areas, which has threatened the country’s economy.

The State Council held a press conference yesterday to brief the media about issues on strengthening the science-based epidemic prevention and control of Covid-19 and at the same time stated the importance of orderly resumption of work.

Restrictive measures like sealed off roads and railways, complete lockdown of residential compounds and overcomplicated administrative measures were not encouraged from a central government level as some of those steps have not been practical and even created fear among the public.

Central government urged for efforts to protect workers from getting infected however resume production as soon as possible for companies who can provide safety working environment for their employees.

We understand more and more factories and companies will pass the sub-district level on-site safety inspection by local authorises and gradually resume work in an orderly manner early next week.
