Dear Valued Client,

We trust everyone is doing well in Level One, and business are returning to a new “normal”.

Today’s BRi update sees us focusing on upcoming seasonal events, that through mutual proactive management it will enable us to retain your supply chain integrity throughout the later part of the year.

Update on upcoming Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) season

BR International wishes to remind you of the upcoming season for BMSB requirements.

The 2020/ 2021 effective dates are:

  • Season commencement date: Origin departure on or after the 1st of September 2020
  • Season end date: Vessel arrival into New Zealand on or before 30th of April 2021.

As highlighted in our update earlier this month The Ministry for Primary Industries (in conjunction with The Australian Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment) are currently reviewing amendments for the import health standard for vehicles, machinery, and parts and any sea containers into New Zealand from designated BMSB risk counties/ origins.

We expect to see the addition of Moldova, Portugal, and Ukraine to be likely be added to the list of high-risk countries totalling 36 countries this upcoming season.

For up to date information on BMSB please follow the below link;

BRi will continue to follow the situation closely and will provide more information on BMSB as it is released accordingly.

Asian and USA Import Rate Increase

Over the Covid-19 crisis there has been a degree of price stability. Liner’s managed dropping demands, via scheduling as opposed to price - Thus maintaining and providing supply in line with their underlying markets and adjusting their supply as market demand required.

As we are beginning to head into our traditional import peak season, Liners are announcing increases (GRI’s) in the range of USD 200 – 300.00 per TEU EX Asia into New Zealand effective 1st of August 2020.

Liners have also indicated potential rate increases EX USA into New Zealand effective 15th of August 2020.

It is BRI’s policy that any GRI/RR/ PSS is passed onto our clients as disbursed and will be confirmed once the quantum’s are finalised accordingly.

Peak Season Forward Planning

As we head into Peak Season it is important we consider/ manage your volume requirements over this period – So to ensure the best opportunity to maintain integrity of your supply chain advanced notice of booking requirements will assist by forward booking three to four weeks in advance of required sailing dates.

Please be aware of the upcoming annual Chinese Golden Week holiday period starts on the 1st of October 2020. Over this period Liners will have blank sailings, resulting in reduced space availability leading up to, during and after this holiday period.

If you can supply BRi with a forecast of your shipment volumes over the coming month’s it would be greatly appreciated as it will assist us in ensuring, we can secure space and have the required capacity levels in place.

As a valued customer of BRi, we appreciate your support, and we will continue to source the best options and solutions for your supply chain needs now, and into the future.

Stay safe,

Keeping You Informed!
