A typhoon signal No 10 – the highest in Chinas warning system – has been confirmed as Typhoon Hato wreaked havoc on Hong Kong and Southern China
It was only the 15th No 10 signal since 1946, the last coming in July 2012, for Typhoon Vicente.
Three dead, hotels facing two-day shutdown after Typhoon Hato has now entered Southern China
The ports of Chiwan, Yantian, Shekou, Xiamen, Huangpu and other South China shipping ports are unable to provide services needed which in turn is causing delays around empty container release, terminal loading procedures and transit times.
We are seeing container congestion/storage concerns in Shenzhen while the “storm chaos” continues so we are concerned with delays once terminal operations are back to normal.
Services such as transport, shipping, airports, public services, airlines and public transport are now experiencing major down time and delays
All Airlines have announced “severe” cancellations and delays that could turn out to be the worst disruptions since Hong Kong International Airport opened nearly two decades ago and the worst China has seen in a decade.
At least 320 flights operated by Cathay Pacific Airways, Cathay Dragon and Hong Kong Airlines, scheduled to take off or land between 6am and 5pm were cancelled.
At this time we would expect this Typhoon to disrupt sailings from last weekend through coming weeks as these disruptions will no doubt create “clean up” delays once the typhoon has moved on
We would suggest that all Bri customers build in an additional 1-2 weeks to their supply chain lead times so to allow for disruptions at this time
