MPI & DAFF FOOT AND MOUTH CHANGED CONDITION

NZ Government, Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) – Additional Measures for all containers from Indonesia.

MIP have announced additional measures for all containers from Indonesia in an effort to prevent the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreak in Indonesia from entering New Zealand.
Effective immediately, all containers are subject to an external inspection/6-sided and supervised unpacking required.  Unpacking of containers are to be completed under direct supervision of an MPI inspector by an Authorised Person (AP). Container(s) are not to be opened until the MPI Border Clearance Inspector is present.  MPI have confirmed importers will not be charged for MPI attendance.

AU Government – Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) – Measures to prevent the introduction of foot and mount disease into Australia.

The department has removed Indonesia from the FMD- free country list and has made the decision to make changes to the import conditions of goods imported from Indonesia.
Changes will apply to import conditions and permits for the following goods sourced from or manufactured in Indonesia:

• Animal and environmental samples for laboratory use
• Dairy, including:

o cheese and butter
o infant formula
o protein powders and supplements
o cheesecakes, cooked biscuits, cooked breads, cooked cakes or cooked pastries containing uncooked dairy fillings or toppings

• other products containing greater than 10% dairy
• Meat jerky or biltong
• Peat (being black peat, peat moss, sphagnum peat moss or white peat)

The department will contact all permit holders affected by this change to provide further information about the impact.
The current conditions put in place from MPI and DAFF are being monitored and are subject to change at a moment’s notice.
